5 Favorites: October Edition

October. This month has been especially crazy because I have begun working as a barista in a bakery. When I first accepted the job I had no idea I was going to be a barista, I had figured I would be in the back kitchen decorating cookies or delivering orders. My first day of work was quite a surprise, but so far, I have enjoyed it.
The customers always keep work interesting.
And of course, since it is October, Halloween is just around the corner! This year I'm excited for the holiday because:
a. I love costumes
b. I get to volunteer with a great organization to hand out candy to kids while they trick-or-treat at the local zoo
My mom also sent me a care package that consisted of a trick-or-treating Halloween cat bag full of KitKat bars, a candy bowl and chicken broth (priorities! Thanks, Mom).

This Mahogany Teakwood candle from Bath & Body Works has a wonderfully fresh scent. It could definitely be considered a more "manly" candle scent because it does have a bit of a cologne-like smell,  but it is very subtle and not overpowering. I would recommend it to those whose significant other turns up their nose at sweeter candle scents like BBW's Pumpkin Caramel Latte. This mini candle costs $4.50, however right now BBW is having a 3 for $10 sale!

Maybelline Lasting Drama by EyeStudio Gel Eyeliner, Charcoal 954
Maybelline Lasting Drama by EyeStudio eyeliner. A while back I had heard Lisa Eldridge mention this product in one of her tutorials, so I decided to pick it up and test it out. I grabbed the color charcoal, put it in my makeup drawer and forgot about it. However, I have started working as a barista and noticed that my Rimmel and Urban Decay eyeliners were not staying put. In an attempt to avoid looking like a zombie in a caffeine induced trance after work I applied this eyeliner and crossed my fingers in hoped that it would be able to withstand the steam from all of the various machines and coffee creating gadgets. It stayed put for the whole day. I plan on purchasing this product in blackest black soon.

Enchiladas Bandera from Hilah Cooking. I've made these twice this month and they are wonderful, but actually, anything from Hilah Cooking is great!

Garden in a bag. I love my garden in a bag. It is cute and quite practical for apartment living. I've been growing this one for about little over a month. Just a few sprouts have begun to reach the top edge of the bag.

Jinx. As some of you may know by now, I really enjoy playing video games of all sorts. Jinx is the newest champion from from the game League of Legends. I love her crazy personality and she is a fun champion to play. If you have never played League of Legends, and have copious amounts of free time, the game is free to download.

  1. Nice October Edition Blog! I really like your suggestions on make-up, since I am definitely clueless! Enjoy being a barista! It sounds like the perfect fit for you.

    P.S. Keep blogging!
P.P.S You are a Kool hipster Kat

Five Unique Things to do in Florence, Italy

A few years ago I studied abroad in Florence, Italy and fell in love with the city of Firenze. Florence, Italy is a city brimming with art and culture. Of course, you can take a look at any travel guide and learn about the top places to visit in the city, but I wanted to share my top five slightly more unusual things I would recommend you do when visiting Florence.

Visit a Secret Bakery
These are not your typical bakeries that are open during the day. Instead they operate a night, usually beginning around midnight. Pull out your map of Florence, or better yet your smartphone! Then use this link to find a secret bakery in Florence. Secret bakeries can be a little tough to locate, but it is worth the effort. Make sure you go in a group, follow your nose and whisper when you get close. Once you find it, politely knock and exchange a few euros for a bag of delicious Nutella filled pastries.

DIY: Quote Banner Wall Art

Fall is here, two months have passed and I still haven't decorated the walls of my new abode. Actually, since moving in, the walls have remained completely blank in most rooms. In the midst of unpacking boxes, going on weekend adventures, job hunting, and interviewing, I just have not found time for many do-it-yourself projects. However, I have been slightly proactive. I did make a trip to Ikea last month in search of decor, but left with only two succulent plants and some notebooks from the stationary section, no wall art. Slowly, but surely little things are starting to make this place feel like home. Maybe by Christmas I will have two pieces of DIY art hanging up around here.
Wall art brightens up a space and today's tutorial is a quick easy DIY that allows you to personalize your space. This wall art is inspired by all of the wall banners I've seen on Pinterest.

The distressed texture of the letters fits well with my space, but as per usual feel free to mix up the col…

Stay organized & Study Right in College

When I started college my study space was a post-it note nightmare with disorganized due dates haphazardly stuck to my desk, mirrors and textbooks. My grades suffered. High school had been a easy breezy whirlwind of practicing clarinet, guitar, piano and dancing to Lady Gaga with my friends. This was different. After my first semester, my grades were not the beautiful sparkling A's I was used to seeing. At first, I panicked. Then I pulled it together and got organized.

Here's how I did it! You can do it too!

Write It Down How you keep track of everything is up to you! You can use your phone, Google Calendars or a planner. Experiment and see what works best for you. Planners are my preferred way of keeping track because you don't have to keep them charged. If you choose to use a planner, invest in a quality one that will not fall apart before the year is through. My planner is from a small leather goods shop in my hometown. I've heard great things about Passion Planners
